Tibetan medicine was brought to awareness in the West largely by the Badmaev family of physicians. They were the first to establish Tibetan pharmacies, clinics, and teaching facilities outside of Buddhist monasteries. They translated ancient texts into Western languages, began systematic basic and clinical research of the medical applications of Tibetan medicine and were the first to manufacture Tibetan formulas for commercial use.
The Badmaev family tradition has moved across the globe over the course of the last two centuries, largely due to geopolitical events and upheavals. Because of this, the Badmaev formulas have by necessity adapted to the conditions and available materials as the family relocated across continents.
This model of adaptation while maintaining basic tradition is central to the Badmaev concept ofHealthy Living in a Changing World. Adaptation to differences in culture, climate, conditions, and response to the biological dynamics of these radical changes is basic within the philosophy of the Dr. Badmaev Tradition. Using the Badmaev condensed foods concept, an optimal state of mental, physical, and spiritual well-being is restored using specific formulas that balance and harmonize the dynamic interactions of the basic elements, Chi, Schara, and Badahan.
